Not so long ago, I wrote about how my mom would use a Nike flat shoe to spank me and my brother. However, she would sometimes also take a thick leather belt to our bare backsides.
Although to me the flat hurt a lot more than the belt, Mom considered the latter to be a more severe implement suitable for older children. This is probably why my brother Richard, who is two years older than me, got the belt a lot more than me. Mom felt that belt spanking was more appropriate for a bigger, stronger boy.
