How do I subscribe?

Simply click on any Red Bottom Club story – these are the ones with a red icon before the summary. You will see a few preview paragraphs of the story, then a subscription panel where you can enter your card details and email address. A cookie will then be deposited on to your computer and you will then be able to view this story and all others without further action. Subscriptions currently cost £6.95 (GBP) a month and are automatically renewed each month.

I was able to access stories for a while but now I’m seeing the subscribe panel again, even though my card is still being charged. What’s happening?

Unfortunately, many operating systems these days automatically delete cookies after a certain time. If this happens, please click the link ‘I am already a subscriber’ on the panel and enter your email address when prompted. A four-digit passcode will automatically be sent to you (check spam folders if it doesn’t arrive) and once you enter this in the challenge panel, a new cookie will be set on your computer and you can carry on as before. You may be able to your browser preferences to enable permanent storage of a cookie which makes this ‘reset’ process unnecessary but you’ll have to investigate that for yourself.

Why did you change your subscription model to automatically renew? I liked the old system better.

Unfortunately, the paywall software previously used had a significant security flaw, which allowed fraudsters to test stolen credit card numbers by subscribing (a small amount which wouldn’t normally be flagged up by the bank). This meant I potentially faced thousands of pounds’ worth of refund charges (approximately £15 a time) if and when such frauds were discovered. Naturally, I couldn’t allow myself to be financially exposed in this way. The new software is more secure, but unfortunately only caters for recurring subscriptions.

How do I cancel my subscription?

When you initially receive the acknowledgement of your subscription, please keep that email. It should have a link to unsubscribe within it. If you’re still having problems, please email me on the address above and I will usually respond within 24 hours. Please allow for time zone differences.

Why do you have to charge?

Maintaining and editing Maman takes a fair amount of my time. For the long-term security of the site, it has to be hosted on dedicated adult servers in the Netherlands, and costs are significantly more expensive than standard internet hosting plans. Maman also attracts high bandwidth use, which also adds to these expenses. Nevertheless, a significant amount of site content is, and will remain, free. I very much appreciate our site supporters.
