Beltings over the sofa

I grew up in Zambia in the 1990s, and corporal punishment was still widespread in both schools and at home. In our own home, that meant the belt from our mother when we were naughty kids.

The belt was an old one of our father’s from which Mother had cut off the buckle and folded it over. It had been folded so long that it lay flat against itself and was effectively a double thickness belt.
