A rise in temperature

When I was a little boy, I experienced quite a few difficulties with my breathing and had several quite bad bouts of bronchitis. The upshot of this was that my GP advised my parents that I should be admitted to hospital to have my adenoids removed, quite a common procedure (along with tonsillectomies) in childhood in those days – this was the mid 1960s, I should add.

The operation went well, without any complications, and I then spent about a week in the children’s ward of my local hospital in Ayrshire, Scotland. As people of a certain age will remember, patients regularly spent quite some recuperation time in hospital in those days – a far cry from modern times, when my op would likely be a day case!
