About two years after I had married my wife Barbara, my work transferred me from my native Scotland to a new role in the south of England. We didn’t really know anyone down in this part of the world but I quickly became firm friends with Pete, an office colleague – we had a very similar warped sense of humour!
Pete invited Barbara and I over to dinner a few weeks later, where we met his equally lovely wife Cathy and their little boy Liam, who was four rising five when we first got to know the family.
