I was born in Portugal in the late 1980s and brought up in a fairly relaxed household as an only child. Unfortunately, when I was nine, I had a school teacher who I just didn’t get along with at all – she would pick on me and humiliate me in front of my classmates, and generally make li fe miserable for me.
One day, I decided I couldn’t face school that morning, so I decided to play truant. I left the house as usual but went round by other roads, to avoid meeting those who knew me, and eventually slipped into a small but dense wood on the edge of our village.
