I enjoy reading the memories posted on your website, especially those involving the cane, a punishment implement with which I have a long connection. Unusually among your posters, however, I have had experience at both ends of a school cane, both as a recipient and an administrator.
I was brought up in the 1950s, when corporal punishment was still very widely used in British schools, not least the grammar school I attended. I was never a particularly naughty boy, so I was never one of those sent immediately for a sore bottom for some serious offence.
