PROPER METHOD – THE PLACE
How many people, I wonder, ever give thought to the question, “Is there anything of importance attached to having a certain place to take or have the child when he is spanked?” The “woodshed” with its harshness and, at times, cruelty, was a matter of convenience to the one chastising. The chastised received no consideration. The “place” question is one of the important details of this form of punishment. Once the normal child has reached the age of two, there is made on him an impression as to the system or lack of system in the correction he receives. Were it not so serious a matter it would be amusing to see what some mothers call correction; the child is as much impressed as is a bird chased off of the lawn.
