For me, from the age of about seven to 13 or so, school uniform and maternal punishment were heavily associated.
My mother rightly believed that anticipation was a vital part of successful punishment, so if I had been naughty in the evening I would be told to expect a spanking the next morning, whereas misbehaviour during the morning would see me being punished in the evening.
