I grew up in Scotland during the 1960s. Spanking (trousers down and over the knee) was the regular punishment for me into early teenage years, and was the usual punishment for most children of my age.
I knew my friends got spanked too – it was obvious from the warning remarks made by their parents when they behaved badly, but it was never a topic of conversation amongst us.
