Here is some ‘ancient history’ on the subject of introducing bottom-smacking in a primary school in Scotland in the 1950s. Everyone knows of the common usage of the tawse or strap in Scottish schools, and how it was normally given in the classroom on the hands.
However, in some schools, it was a well-understood ‘ultimate’ sanction that one might be kept behind after class or sent to the headmistress to get it on the bottom – with or without some layers of clothing being removed.
