I grew up in a small Texas town (8,000 people back then). My mother was a schoolteacher, my dad worked for the government and I was an only child.
My mother was the disciplinarian and was intent that I wasn’t going to be a spoiled only child. I was spanked probably eight or ten times a year, from the time I was three or four until…well, I got my last one in the eighth grade.
