Small change

I was in my parents room one day when I noticed a large pile of loose change on my father’s dresser. Figuring that I would get away with it, I pocketed about 50 cents. I either thought that I would get away with it, or at least secretly hoped that I wouldn’t.

A few days later, my father was ranting about money missing from his room. He asked if I had taken it. I said ‘no’. He continued ranting. Later my mother asked me the same question. I again said ‘no’ but felt that she already had me pegged. She asked again and I told her that I needed it to buy something for school. She didn’t believe it.
