I went to a private girls school during the late 1950s/early 60s in the south of England. It was a very well thought-of establishment and the teachers were demanding about standards of both behaviour and achievement.
They were also red-hot on school uniform. Skirts would be measured to check that they fell to an acceptable length below the girl’s knees, ties were expected to be properly done up at all times and only in the warmest weather were we allowed to take off our blazers in class.
