I’ve mentioned before that I grew up mostly in the 1970s in Yorkshire, and that smacking and other corporal punishment was still commonplace at home and at school. I thought I would give an account of one such punishment I received at the latter.
I attended a village school with around 100 pupils and and all female staff (the part-time caretaker excepted). Classroom smackings were quite common for routine misbehaviour, usually comprising of three or four smacks to the bottom or legs.
