I’m the product of the Bible Belt of the 1990s, and even by that time spanking was a common, everyday occurrence. Nearly all the families I knew kept a paddle for their children’s bottoms, or else they got their daddy’s belt. My mom sometimes jokingly referred to herself as a ‘Proud bama paddler of little behinds’ and spankings were not uncommon to witness, and certainly very common to overhear at the very least.
Despite our own particular, well-founded fears, myself and other boys found that there was something about spankings which nevertheless fascinated us, especially as we approached puberty. I guess it was because bottoms were involved, which were thought of as kind of ‘naughty’ and private, but it was also the ritual of spanking which also excited us.
