I think I may have had the odd smack on the bum as a toddler but by the time I was 11 years old, within at least living memory, I had never been subject to corporal punishment.
However, that didn’t stop me from somehow becoming fixated about spanking at a very early age. I remember looking the word up in dictionaries and the thesaurus, and I even furtively looked through the ‘parenting and childcare’ section at our local library when I wasn’t being watched, hoping to come across passages about smacking – alas for me, most of the books were naturally dead against it!
