The model aeroplane

For my seventh birthday, among my presents from my parents was an Airfix model kit of a Spitfire, perhaps the most iconic of all the World War II planes. Dad helped me build it over the next few days and it was a really great father-son bonding experience.

A few weeks later, I had my friend Nigel come round to play for the afternoon. Needless to say, I showed him my new Spitfire and before long we were playing with it. Unfortunately, we became increasingly careless and rough and at some point, Nigel grabbed the model out of my hands and launched it across the hallway where we were playing.
