Although I now live and work in the UK, I was brought up in the Philippines by a very loving, but strict, mother. My father tragically died in a diving accident when I was only three years old, so it was left to mom to bring me up on her own.
I read with interest your report on the prevalence of spanking in the Philippines and wasn’t at all surprised by its conclusions. Even today in my home country, many parents regard it as their sacred trust and duty to spank their children when they misbehave.
