During the late 60s/early 70s, I worked as an early years classroom teacher in both kindergarten and first grade in schools in Alabama. The atmosphere in class was very different back then – you listened when the teacher spoke, you were respectful and you got on with your work to the best of your ability.
Children who did none of the above, put simply, got spanked. Even in the few short years I was in the teaching profession, before I became a mother myself, I warmed so many little bottoms that I very quickly lost count.
