When I went to college, I found it difficult to find somewhere to live that was both close to the campus and affordable, and I ended up renting a room in a family house. Corrine and Jim, the couple who lived there, had four young children, two of each sex. When I moved in, the youngest of these was three years old and the eldest was nine.
Corrine and Jim were fundamentalist Christians, but I didn’t mind this very much as I was from a similar background, though not (as I found out) as strict. We got along fine and the house was nice, although by no means large at four bedrooms. Corrine and Jim had the master bedroom, I had the next biggest and the children slept in bunk beds in the other two.
